Greetings Classmates The website is awesome! I am really enjoying it. Everytime I look in it, it gets better
and more interesting. When I heard my favorite songs "My Girl" the Temptations and Otis Redding , it reminded
me of days gone by and that just touched my heart.

On Thanksgiving 2008, as we join with family and friends and give thanks for all of life's blessings,
we will add a special thanks for our, LAHS Class of 1968 40th Reunion Celebration. We will express our thanks for
being able to attend the event to greet and to share with other classmates memories of days gone by and to provide updates
of our lives today.
We will give special thanks to all we met on the journey which delivered us to this
year. We will give special thanks for every aspect of our lives which contributed to the people we have become.
We will give special thanks for our ability to reach out and help someone who might need assistance. We will give special
thanks for world peace. We will give special thanks for an improved economy and enhanced wisdom in those who will lead
our world out of the present economic, social and political conditions. We will give thanks for the
days which have led us to January 20, 2009 when the first African American, President Elect Barack Obama will be sworn in
as the 44th President of the United States of America.
Most importantly, we will give special thanks for
our mere existence and all we have become. We will ask for the enhanced ability to continue to do our part to make and
leave this world a better place for all to live, worship and work.

Merle Paulette ColstonSadly, we announce the missing link of our circle, Merle Paulette Colston, who departed this life on November 1, 2008 peacefully
in her home. Merle Paulette Colston was born on February 5, 1950. She was the third child and only daughter born to Russell
and Geneva (Fisher) Colston, who both preceded her in death. Paulette was the “Apple of her Daddy’s eye”.
Paulette was educated in the Roanoke, Virgina School District, graduating from Lucy Addison High School. She was a
proud member of the Graduating Class of 1968. Paulette recently attended the Class 40th Year Class Reunion held in July 2008.
Paulette was very active in the Lucy Addison Marching Band and the tennis club. After graduating from high school,
Paulette attended Elizabeth City College, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree
in education. Paulette was a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. After graduating from college, Paulette pursued
a career in graphic design with Norfolk and Western Railroad and State of Virginia Correctional Departments. Due to failing
health, Paulette retired from the State, but continued to pursue her hearts desire by following in her father’s footsteps
by entering into the field of retailing/selling antiques. Paulette leaves to cherish her memory her son, Diallo "Merl"
Harper of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Johnnie (Sylvia) Colston of Newport News, VA; and Russell Bernard (Brenda) Colston of
Roanoke, VA; a loving aunt Mamie (Clarence) Lee of Roanoke, VA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members
and friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008 at Hamlar Curtis Funeral Home.
A service to celebrate Paulette’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 in the funeral home chapel.
