When we were
By: Thomas W. Draper
Dedicated to, “the Lucy Addison Class of 1968”
Reminiscing a time, when innocence
was mine,
and all
of life’s dreams lay before me.
When classmate’s, I had plenty, and friend’s
were so many,
And the newness of our lives was spring fresh.
When neighbor’s were we and
adults could agree, it took the village
effort
to oversee
our path.
How rebellious
and rambunctious
were we,
as we each set out to be,
As we each
attempted to conquer the world we knew.
So many roads we would partake,
so many ways we would navigate,
seeking to fulfill our ambitions.
Seeking
to arrive at that elusive point in time,
when all of life’s dreams would be
a palette laid before us,
Our village unity became our past
and though many remained close,
others, because
of their
travels
and lost contacts, drifted into a
mist of memories past.
Lucy Addison High School will forever
be our common bond, yet our ties to one
another go far, far, far beyond.
Into our churches, our neighborhoods,
our parks
and city
streets,
When we
reminisce of our youth, these
relationships will form our memories treats.
Bonded in the fiber of our hearts forever,
forgotten friendships, never.
For this was the zenith of our youth.
But alas,
because of
attrition, and changing
ambitions, Life has added a twist.
You see,
when we began our life’s plan
the future, was a distant and uncharted land,
far removed from the valley of our
youth.
We
were classmates,
neighbors,
family and friends
and after
forty years into life’s adulthood
journey,
we are reunited in spirit and person once again.
To those gathered here and the memories
we hold dear, to those still away whom we recall from back in the day and to those now departed who will forever be heart
felt, this muse is dedicated to
you.
